Fall term's a wrap!

I just wrapped up the fall quarter of the Science Illustration Program at CSU Monterey Bay. I learned a ton about new techniques like coquille and scratchboard, and I loved some of the more creative assignments—like trying to paint a landscape in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe. Over December I’ll be adding a Science Illustration section to my site, and I’ll include more of my digital works, as well. Here are a few snapshots and details of some of my projects, in the meantime.

Update from Monterey

I’m halfway through my first term of the science illustration program at CSU Monterey Bay. I’ve learned so much already—from my classmates as well as the teachers—and I’ve made more art than I have in ages. I’m taking classes in the basics of science illustration, digital illustration, and field sketching. Here are a few snapshots of the projects I’ve been up to this fall.

Back to school...

I left my marine conservation job of 14 years this summer, and I am headed back to school to CSUMB's natural science illustration program in September.  I'm looking forward to combining my two passions of art and conservation, and learning a ton of new skills and techniques!

DIY Watercolors

I took a great class back in March at Case for Making in the Outer Sunset.  I learned how to make my own earth pigments, and also got some tips on different washes, brush techniques, and mixing colors.
